From drawing to delivery: How precision components are made

From drawing to delivery: How precision components are made

At Standish Engineering, every component starts the same way, as a requirement.

That might be a technical drawing, a specification, or a conversation about a particular challenge. But what follows is a carefully managed process designed to ensure accuracy, consistency, and performance at every stage.

Before any machining begins, it’s about getting the detail right. Material choice, tolerances, and intended use all influence how a component will be produced. Taking the time to understand these factors early helps ensure the most efficient and effective machining approach is used.

Once the requirements are clear, our team develops the machining strategy. This includes selecting the right tools, defining cutting paths, and planning how the component will be produced - particularly important for complex or multi-sided parts.

Good planning at this stage helps reduce errors, improve efficiency, and maintain consistency throughout production.

Using a range of CNC turning centres and machining centres, components are then produced with precision and control. Whether it’s a simple part or a complex geometry, the focus remains the same:

  • Accuracy to specification

  • Consistent quality

  • Efficient production

Advanced machinery allows us to complete multiple operations in fewer setups, improving both precision and turnaround times.

Every component goes through thorough inspection before leaving our workshop. Using a combination of CMM and optical inspection equipment, we ensure each part meets the required specification. Quality isn’t something added at the end, it’s built into every stage of the process.

The end result is more than just a finished component, it’s a part that needs to perform in its intended environment.

That’s why attention to detail throughout the process is so important. From initial planning to final inspection, every step plays a role in ensuring the component does exactly what it’s designed to do.

At Standish Engineering, our approach is built on experience, capability, and a commitment to doing things properly. Because when it comes to precision engineering, consistency is just as important as accuracy.

If you’re looking for a reliable partner to support your next project, we’d be happy to help.
