Standish Engineering Invests in LOSMA Centrifugal Filters

Standish Engineering has continued to prove its compliance with environmental legislation and the welfare of its staff through an investment in its manufacturing capabilities in the form of the LOSMA Centrifugal Filters which were installed recently to replace a centralised system of machine extraction.

At Standish, our machine shop includes 5- Axis CNC machining centres, CNC bar fed twin turret- twin spindle lathes, and CNC chuck lathes. However, through the regular use of these machines, oil mist can be generated from the machining process. Standish Engineering has long prioritised the health and safety of its employees, and leaving the oil mist problem untreated could lead to health problems of staff.

The LOSMA Galileo Plus system was installed onto each machine, and includes a patented centrifugal filter for extracting oil mist generated from neat oil and emulsions used in machine tools. The unit is available in 5 models with throughputs from 325 to 3.500 m3/h, and several different models from the Galileo Plus range were purchased and installed in order to best suit the desired machine.

The LOSMA Galileo Plus units were selected because they use energy saving motors with high efficiency and low power, making them environmentally friendly, and also have a long lifetime, due to the centrifugal action of the turbines ensuring that the multilayer filter does not remain saturated with contaminants. Through this investment, Standish Engineering now satisfies the HSG258 guideline which aims to control airborne contaminants at work through local exhaust ventilation.

Standish Engineering has been at the forefront of offering the very best in manufacturing capability, specialising in the production of complex components for some of the most diverse and demanding industries in the world, engineering precision parts for the UK Rail network, Oil & Gas industry, the NHS, and even the UK Space Agency. This new investment demonstrates our commitment to the health and safety of our workforce, whilst ensuring that our machining and manufacturing capabilities remain as excellent as ever.

Our capacity includes CNC Chuck Lathes up to 450mm in diameter and 1000mm long, as well as CNC Bar Fed Twin Turret and Twin Spindle Lathes up to 65mm diameter and 450mm length, as well as several CNC 5-axis machining centres. The majority of parts are machined in stainless steel and aluminium, but we have significant experience in machining exotic alloys such as Super Duplex, Inconel®, Monel® and Hastelloy.

Our facilities also have capabilities for a wide array of post-production treatments, including heat treatment processes, planting, painting, and final finishing processes, and much more. The quality of your precision- engineered parts is of the utmost importance to us, which is why we ensure that our quality management system complies with the ISO 9001:2015 and industry standards, including ISO Cert and RISQS cert.
